Girls on Fire members (and future Casting Directors), Kiley and Cassie
NEWSFLASH: The hottest book club in America–the Girls on Fire Summer Book Club–has started meeting again.
True to form, the girls were on fire Friday to rant about the non-ending ending of Requiem, Lauren Oliver’s “conclusion” to the Delirium trilogy.
We also chose the cast of the movie version (see our picks below). You’re welcome, Hollywood.
Girls on Fire = a few of my favorite teen girls (and me) reading our way through the school-free months, meeting every-so-often at Sound City Coffee to caffeinate/dish about books/characters we loved/hated.
Last summer, we read Delirium and Pandemonium, the first two books of Oliver’s trilogy. Her writing was a hands down favorite with the girls, so we were dying to devour the conclusion this summer (more on that in a minute).

Back to Requiem. This book was FANTASTIC. Until the end when it WASN’T. I won’t spoil the story, but for those of you who’ve already read it and need to commiserate, fellow blogger Jordon does an excellent job articulating her frustrations. She handily sums up the review with these words: “NO ANSWERS.” Yep. We totally agree, Jordon.
Rather than spending all our time re-hashing Jordon’s post, which I had printed and brought with me to book club, the girls and I decided to do something much more valuable. We made a cast list for the movie that we hope someday will be made. Because we love these characters. Also Kiley and Cassie have mad skills. They would make FANTASTIC casting directors. Really, they have a knack. We hope you enjoy our casting choices…

Based on your recommendation I read Under the Never Sky recently and…didn’t like it. :/ It was well written, but for some reason the voice and love story–just not my cup of tea. After reading a couple other “dome dystopian” books, I think this is the reason, for me personally. I just don’t love the setting. But maybe that means you’d love the well-written books I don’t! So under that notion, I’d like to recommend Skylark by Meghan Spooner. Hope you like it!
Also, love your summer recommendations. They’re all on my summer reading list too!
So far, of the list, I’ve enjoyed Cinder–though I didn’t enjoy the sequel as much–and I was surprised how much I enjoyed The Selection. Perfect summer reading!
Sidenote: @Aubrey Cann: They’re not making a TV series. They were trying for it, but ultimately the network wouldn’t pick it up. Sad times!!!

DARN! I’m so bummed you didn’t like Under the Never Sky!! How can this be? I’ll check out Skylark–is it considered “dome dystopia”? (I’ve never head that term, but I like it.) Glad you enjoyed Cinder. I’m with you on the sequel…not my fav, but my daughter loved them both. I remember liking The Selection, but it’s been so long since I read it…I’ve been meaning to read the next in the series, but I’ve been so BUSY this summer. Just finished Fault in Our Stars and loved it, but it took me a while to get into it.
Also darn on the TV series falling through. By the way, did you read the Delirium series? I’m kinda in love with Lauren Oliver’s writing…
